How to determine the Top Utah Donut Shop
What a sweet ending to the most delicious bracket you’ll see in March. March Madness is alright, but having a sugary ending makes the matchups that much more fun. Cinderalla stories? How about frosting laced comebacks? Hot fryer rivalries? Sprinkled buzzer beaters?
Congratulations to the 2022 winner, Banbury Cross Donuts. It was a hard fought win with waves of votes going back and forth throughout the day. This is a perfectly timed win as they open a new location in Centerville (the Centerville Banbury Cross opened July 2022 on Parrish Lane). Banbury is widely known as one of Utah’s best donut shops. This year shows that Utah love, but it took four years to pull out the final victory.
Beyond amazing donuts, we saw so much heart in the matchups that started with 32 shops and ended with one winner. In the final, Mountain Donuts was down early and then we witnessed a comeback that nearly was realized (votes for the Ogden donut shop got to within a 1% difference). Ogden is a very loyal city!
This bracket is beyond winnings and prizes… it’s a reflection of all the good people surrounding the dessert community in Utah. Thank you to the donut shops, dessert fans, and all those that support these small businesses. You are the reason why I find being a dessert analyst so satisfying (beyond the sugar highs).
It has been amazing to witness a NEW winner for each of the last 4 years. Who will be the winner in 2023? One thing is clear – Utah has some amazing donut shops and amazing sugar fans. Who do YOU think will win the best donut shop next?
