Do you think you could survive 7 days on nothing but cereal and milk? Well, I’m alive to tell the tale. I know some dude survived on Taco Bell but the menu and nutrient variety at the Bell is so much more than the dairy and carbs I signed up for. It was tripping up my body with so much dairy!
Luckily, I don’t have a lactose intolerance because of all the milk, cheese, and yogurt I eat on a normal basis. See the rules for the cereal challenge here.

What does preparing for 7 days of cereal look like?

You have to stock up your inventory and start leaving boxes of cereal in all types of places because 21 straight meals AND any snacking that takes place needs to be cereal and milk. Let that reality sink in.
Really, the physical aspects of this food challenge weren’t the hard part. It was the mental game that was the most difficult to me. Seeing my family eat normal savory food while I had a cold bowl of cereal and milk was more sad than I imagined.

Did I gain weight?

My weight slightly dropped over the week but then rose as I neared the end. Nothing showed any major distress because I was eating as much as I could to stay full. The biggest dip I saw was in overall energy. I couldn’t eat enough to really feel satiated. I felt bloated quickly which kept me from eating more and more. Most people guessed that I would gain weight eating some many sugars and dairy. Not the case.

What happened with my glucose levels?

My glucose levels never really spiked either as I was monitoring before and after meals – of course at the same time each day. Meaning, my body was adjusting to what I was throwing at it. I don’t recommend this food challenge for everyone. Any questions about health during a food challenge or if you want to eat a ton of cereal and milk should be referred to your doctor.
